Calling all Richmond volunteers! The SS Red Oak Victory Ship is in need of your assistance, especially those with docent experience or interest.

There are many ways to lend your service, from technical to marketing, retail, and public interactions — working together to see the ship fully restored.

What's the onboarding process like?

"Volunteer candidates are asked to come on board, tour the ship and meet the crew," says Frederick Klink, Director of Marketing.

"From there, you get to choose what is going to interest you or best suit your talents. It is a very low-pressure process. Volunteers can work as little as a day or two per month up to 15+ days per month."

The Red Oak's History

The Red Oak Victory is operated by the Richmond Museum Association (RMA) — a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1954. The RMA also operates the Richmond Museum of History and Culture, serving the entire Bay Area community.

The RMA has working relationships, through the Bay Area World War II Alliance, with other historic ships in the area and other sites related to wartime history. These include the Rosie the Riveter World War II Homefront National Historic Park, where the Red Oak is located.
